Produce Does Not Go to Waste at Shawnee Springs Markets!
Well… these ladies know! 
Meet some of the local cows enjoying the produce that’s just a little too ripe, a little too blemished, or simply not quite “market pretty.” 
We work closely with local cattle and pig farmers to make sure our perfectly imperfect produce doesn’t end up in a landfill. 
These are those cows enjoying the produce that is just not quite market-worthy.
These are those cows enjoying the produce that is just not quite market-worthy.Whether it’s a peach that’s a little too ripe, a tomato with a blemish, or vegetables that didn’t quite make it to the display table, it still helps feed local livestock and support fellow farmers. 
By working together, we’re reducing waste, supporting local agriculture, and doing our part to care for the land and our community.
A Piece of Shawnee Springs History Comes Home
Some trucks are more than trucks—they’re part of the story.
This 1954 Ford F500 was purchased new by Shawnee Foods (original cannery) in Winchester and used as a working farm truck, hauling produce from local farms and orchards to the cannery.
One of those local growers was the Whitacre Family Farms, whose connection to Shawnee continues to this day.
The truck disappeared from the Shawnee story—until 2021, when Scott Johnson received a message about an old Ford truck for sale. The photos revealed something incredible: the original Shawnee Springs lettering was still visible on the doors.
With the help of local friends and craftsmen, including Chris and Philip Wine of Wine Truck Repair, Abe Wine of Shoprat Metal Works, and pinstriper Skratch of Skratch’s Garage, the truck was carefully brought back to life.
The goal wasn’t to make it look brand new. It was to make it look like the working farm truck it had always been—preserving its character, history, and original lettering.
Today, this old Ford is more than a restored truck. It’s a rolling piece of Shawnee Springs, Whitacre Family Farms, and Shenandoah Valley history.
Some things are worth bringing back.
